Whether it be a short story, novel, poetry, article, RPG adventure, RPG core book, or other creative writing, how many of you are aspiring writers? Many of my friends are writing furiously for NaNoWriMo 2023 and sharing about it on social media. I want to encourage them all in their creative pursuits and wish them well this November.

National Novel Writing Month began in 1999 as a daunting but straightforward challenge: to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days. Now, each year on November 1, hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin to write, determined to end the month with 50,000 words of a brand new novel. They enter the month as elementary school teachers, mechanics, or stay-at-home parents. They leave novelists.
While I won’t meet the NaNoWriMo goals this month myself, I continue to dabble with my own writing as I have time. Balancing work, caregiving, family, and hobbies means writing doesn’t get as much time as I wish, but I still enjoy it and want to encourage others who are more focused on their writing.
