2020 - Walking on Water

My wife, Angie, and I enjoy reading books together a little at a time each evening before bed. Recently, we have been reading books on being creative starting with Adorning the Dark: Thoughts on Community, Calling, and the Mystery of Making by Andrew Peterson and now onto Walking on Water: Reflections on Faith and Art by Madeleine L’Engle. Angie and I both really enjoy A Wrinkle in Time by L’Engle and were very interested to read about her creative process and what drives her as an artist.

In this classic book, Madeleine L’Engle addresses the questions, What does it mean to be a Christian artist? and What is the relationship between faith and art? Through L’Engle’s beautiful and insightful essay, readers will find themselves called to what the author views as the prime tasks of an artist: to listen, to remain aware, and to respond to creation through one’s own art.

Both of us are passionate about books and have dabbled with some writing of our own, I have my tabletop gaming work, and I do some crafting on the side. Reading the inspirations and processes of other creators helps you reflect on your own creativity. It inspires you to dig deeper into your own art. What books would you recommend we read next?
