Gen Con 2017 quickly approaches. The 50th Anniversary of Gen Con. Amazing to think my family and I will be in attendance and working such a momentous time in gaming history. Each year at Gen Con, I not only look forward to new games to add to my collection, but to see others enjoying games that I helped produce.

I will also be attending the ENnies again this year to celebrate Son of Oak’s nomination of the City of Mist Starter for Best Free Product and for something even more personal than a freelance project. My blog, Cyclopaedia, has been nominated for Best Blog. Each year the ENies are a joy to spend time celebrating with other game industry professionals, acknowledging their amazing creativity. To have a project I worked on myself over the past year be nominated nearly overwhelms me with nervous joy. My wife and daughters will be attending this year with me to celebrate if I were to win.

This has been another wonderful year as a freelancer for me, which I know I keep saying. Each year brings new projects and new publishers. I have been privileged to work with a group of incredibly creative and professional people. There are even more projects in my queue that I think you will be very interested in when they become available for purchase.

For those readers who are curious what games interest me and my family, here is our “To Check Out At Gen Con” list for 2017 (not including games I worked on listed above). First thing, we will be checking out is the CoolStuffInc booths (Booths 1501/1605) to see if we can find any incredible deals on scratch and dent games on our wish list. Then, when we are not working the booth, attending sessions, or gaming, we will be wandering the Exhibit Hall, checking out and demoing these games. Wonder what games will make it home with us this year?

Adventures in Middle Earth RPG by Cubicle 7 (Booth 933) [I have the Loremaster’s and Player’s Guides so looking at any new books.]
Codenames Duet by Czech Games Edition (Room 231/232)

Dresden Files Accelerated RPG by Evil Hat Productions (IPR Booth 2338)

Star Trek Adventures RPG by Modiphius (Booth 2461)
Total Recall: The Official Tabletop Game by Overworld Games (Booth 2661)

As you look at games this year, pause for a moment and think of everyone involved in creating these wonderful games we get to play. As a freelancer in the industry, I have so much appreciation for all that goes into producing and publishing these games. If you have a spare moment during the convention, flip open the RPG or game manual you have purchased recently to the credits pages and appreciate the names listed there.

So excited Gen Con 2017 is almost here! This year, I will again be helping out Modiphius with their booth (#2461) setup, working a shift each day (3 to 6 pm), and tearing down the booth on Sunday. So you will be able to find my family and I at the booth, wandering the halls, or around downtown Indy. Perhaps we will see each other face-to-face during Gen Con. My family and I would love to chat with you.
